Ontario Announces New Home Renovation Savings Program

January 07, 2025

The Ontario government has announced the Home Renovation Savings Program, a new initiative to help Ontario homeowners improve their home's energy efficiency through insulation upgrades and other energy-saving improvements. Set to launch on January 28, 2025, this program offers substantial rebates for home energy efficiency upgrades, including up to $8,900 for insulation upgrades.

What Makes This Program Different?

The Home Renovation Savings Program will provide two ways for Ontario homeowners to access rebates for insulation upgrades and other energy efficiency incentives:

  1. Single Upgrades: Complete individual energy-saving improvements without requiring a home energy assessment. Save on Energy outlines cold climate air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, smart thermostats, and solar panels and battery storage as applicable upgrades that will not require an energy assessment.
  2. Bundle and Save: The Home Renovation Savings Program shows that an energy assessment and two or more upgrades are required for rebates on insulation, windows and doors, air sealing, and heat pump water heaters. An additional $600 rebate is available for the required home energy assessment.

The bundling of services and requirement of a home energy assessment makes this program similar in structure to the currently-available Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate program that was launched in July 2024.

Home Insulation and Air Sealing Rebate Amounts

For Ontario homeowners carrying out insulation improvements, the program offers rebates of up to $8,900 for qualifying insulation upgrades. Combined with additional rebates - $600 for home energy assessments and up to $250 for air sealing - these incentives make energy efficiency upgrades more affordable for Ontario families.

When Does the Home Renovation Savings Program Launch?

The Home Renovation Savings Program is set to launch January 28, 2025. Details, including eligibility requirements, will be provided later in January ahead of the program launch date.
