When You Do It Right, Green Ontario Fund Rebates Will Increase Your Savings
March 20, 2018
When you make significant home energy retrofits, Green Ontario Fund rebates will increase your
savings. To begin with, the rebate amounts are quite substantial – up to $7,200 for insulation and
up to $5,000 for high-performance window upgrades. It’s an ideal opportunity to improve home
energy efficiency by retrofitting insulation, enhancing air sealing, and upgrading your windows.
We will look more closely at the insulation portion of the rebates in this article – we are an
insulation company after all!
Over the long term, home energy upgrades translate to dollar savings throughout the entire year.
Energy consumption is diminished (winter heating and summer cooling are your primary
consumers of energy) and therefore utility bills are reduced season after season. Upgrading home
insulation, even on its own, can contribute to 15% savings every year. Perhaps more importantly,
this is also a way for you to “shrink” your carbon footprint.
With better insulation, Green Ontario Fund rebates increase your short-term savings
Beyond the long-term savings from decreased heating and cooling costs, there is also initial
reimbursement in savings (not to mention an instantly more comfortable home). Rebates for
insulation upgrades are offered through the GreenON Rebates Program to owners of a detached
home, a semi-detached home, or a row townhome. For renters, landlords must provide written
permission for any upgrade performed.
- Insulation upgrades to the attic - up to $1,500
- For insulation upgrades in the basement - up to $1,900
- For insulation retrofits to exterior walls - up to $3,800
If you’re in business, Green Ontario Fund rebates will increase your savings
The GreenON Challenge is aimed at businesses and organizations that are spearheading change
for an innovative and competitive low-carbon economy. This program is focused on projects that
implement commercially available low-carbon technologies that significantly lessen carbon
footprints.
- Incorporated not-for- profit organizations (Ontario-based)
- Private businesses in Ontario (less than 499 paid employees)
- Indigenous not-for- profit organizations/private businesses
An energy efficient home, with upgrades and retrofits, is much more saleable
Even today, a home with high performance insulation and energy efficient windows has a distinct
advantage on the resale market. A home that is well sealed, properly insulated, and outfitted with
efficient windows performs more cost-effectively, consumes less energy, and saves on utilities.
- Air sealing and insulation markedly diminishes energy loss
- Reduced energy consumption makes for reduced utility costs
- Energy efficiency allows for optimum HVAC performance
A professional approach to home energy improvements, upgrades, retrofits
With a Registered Energy Advisor on hand, project recommendations and advice are easily
available. Green Ontario Fund rebates are offered to property owners who hire a participating
contractor to perform the work. When a project has been completed, the property owner
confirms the scope of work and provides an official proof of purchase.
Ontario residents who own in a detached home, semi-detached home, or row townhome, are
eligible for the GreenON Rebates Program. For those who rent, the landlord must grant
permission. Working with a participating contractor is not only required for the program, but
will also ensure a high standard of quality (products and installation). When working with Great
Northern Insulation, we ensure the project runs smoothly from end to end.
Incentives and rebates included in Green Ontario Fund rebates increase your savings. By
improving energy efficiency and performance, Ontario residents can dramatically reduce
personal energy dependence and consumption, thus reducing Ontario’s overall carbon footprint
for many years to come. At the same time, there are immediate savings through rebates that
offset the investment.
