New Online Tool Helps Reduce Energy Costs in Prince Edward Island
October 27, 2017
P.E.I. is the first Canadian province to provide residents with access to an online tool to help reduce energy costs in Prince Edward Island. The online platform is known as MyEnergyXpert, and is designed to help homes and business reduce their overall energy usage, save money on heating and cooling, and shrink their current carbon footprint.
In Prince Edward Island, government energy policy promotes proactive change with regard to domestic energy efficiency. And with climate change at the forefront, every effort is made to reduce energy costs in Prince Edward Island. With MyEnergyXpert, P.E.I. residents will participate in a province-wide effort for homes and businesses.
MyEnergyXpert will allow online users to input pertinent information about their home/business for the purpose of analyzing energy efficiency issues (positive and negative). The prime objective of the program is to reduce energy costs in Prince Edward Island. Collectively, residents will also make a noticeable difference with greenhouse gas emissions.
- P.E.I. residents will actually perform an “energy audit” right online
- Once their data is input, customized recommendations are offered
- Residents can then find programs/rebates for remedies/retrofits
MyEnergyXpert is designed to reduce energy costs in Prince Edward Island
Designed in collaboration with M.I.T., MyEnergyXpert is an award-winning software platform that originated in Toronto, and was specially customized for Prince Edward Island residents. In an effort to promote energy conservation throughout the province, the P.E.I. government worked closely with the team at MyEnergyXpert in their vision to empower residents to be more energy efficient. The bottom line, of course, is to reduce energy costs in Prince Edward Island.
Prince Edward Island has a 10-year energy strategy with a target date of 2027. The strategy aims to maximum domestic energy efficiency, conserve energy usage in residential and commercial buildings, and generate more renewable energy. MyEnergyXpert is essentially a “springboard” to launch longer-term energy efficiency. Just by example, if every home and business in Canada was using MyEnergyXpert, greenhouse gas emissions could be markedly reduced by more than 10%.
The main objective of MyEnergyXpert is to customize energy savings programs that are specific to a building profile. With the online “energy audit” platform, residential homes and commercial businesses can realistically lower energy use, save money on utilities, and reduce carbon footprints. The software is simple and customer centric – and it’s easily completed in about 15 minutes. Best of all, the audit results are accurate, with viable recommendations to match.
MyEnergyXpert allows for improvements to be made to energy efficiency. The online software is the first step in expediting repairs and retrofits to a home or small building. In identifying energy performance issues, MyEnergyXpert recommends specific upgrades to boost energy performance and enhance energy efficiency. In terms of dollars and cents, the on-going savings, particularly with heating and cooling, can actually “pay down” the original cost of repairs and retrofits.
With Prince Edward Island leading the way, it won’t be long before other provinces and territories will follow suit. The reality is about changing the present to prepare for the future.
